The word tumour often strikes a deep fear, making many women feel like they are carrying a ticking time bomb. But what if these growths are not invaders or monsters? As a researcher and womb health expert, I want to invite you to look closer. By understanding the sophisticated biology of fibroids, we can move from fear to empowerment, so rather than seeing them as monsters, you now view them as complex signals of our internal environment.

The ‘C’ Word: Benign vs. Malignant

Clinical research confirms that uterine fibroids are benign smooth muscle tumours. This is critical because so many women are coerced into having a hysterectomy. A critical but highly differential feature that distinguishes a common fibroid from a rare malignancy like leiomyosarcoma is the Pseudocapsule. As a fibroid grows, it creates a distinct boundary. Research shows that the Pseudocapsule is actually a sophisticated neurovascular bundle rich in neurofibres and blood vessels that are pivotal for wound healing and uterine repair. In contrast, cancer tumours lack this organised boundary at the molecular level, which is why it invades surrounding tissue rather than remaining contained. This means fibroids are not cancerous, and having them does not mean you have a higher risk of uterine cancer.

The Hormonal Fuel (It’s Not Just Oestrogen)

While many view oestrogen as the sole culprit for fibroid growth, it is actually a delicate dance between hormones. Fibroids are hyper-estrogenised, but the real expansion occurs through a specific molecular signalling. First, ERα (Oestrogen Receptor alpha) must unlock the cell by inducing the expression of the Progesterone Receptor (PR). It is then the PR that binds to DNA sites to promote cell survival and growth. Oestrogen effectively sets the stage, but progesterone drives cellular growth.

The Mechanical Environment (Why They Feel Hard)

Fibroids are characterised by an excessive deposition of Extracellular Matrix (ECM), a stiff scaffold made of collagen and elastin. This stiffness is a physical conversation between the cell and its scaffold. Through a process called Mechanosensing, fibroid cells feel the mechanical tension of their environment. This creates a vicious cycle of stiffness: the physical pressure of the ECM signals the internal pathways of the cell to keep building, leading to enlargement of the tumours.

The Secret Life Cycle: Fibroids Can Die

It is a common misconception that fibroids only grow. In reality, they have a definitive life cycle and can even undergo a homeotic transformation. Research shows that fibroids are myometrial cells that have switched their biological blueprint to act like cervical stroma tissue (a stiff, fibrous connective tissue that behaves differently). Furthermore, as they build excessive collagen, they can outgrow their nutrient supply. This leads to Inanosis - essentially the cell starving due to lack of nourishment. Once this occurs, the body begins Reclamation, a natural enzymatic process where the dead cells are degraded and recycled. Summing this up simply, fibroids have a natural lifecycle; they can eventually run out of ‘fuel’ and undergo a process where the body begins to recycle the tissue.

The Impact of Environment and Stress

Research has identified that our internal biology reacts strongly to external factors. Clinical studies on phthalates - chemicals found in many consumer products, show an association with a measurable 26.8% to 33.2% increase in uterine volume. Additionally, emotional stress and systemic inflammation create a specific biochemical feed-forward loop. Oestrogen stimulates COX enzymes, which produce PGE2 (prostaglandin E2); which triggers aromatase, the enzyme that makes more oestrogen. This is how stress and inflammation can physically fuel the growth of fibroid tissue.

While fibroids can impact quality of life through symptoms like anaemia or pain, the clinical reality is that they are manageable, benign entities. By understanding the protective Pseudocapsule, the vicious cycle of Mechanosensing, and the natural stages of starvation, we can release any fear, because you now know that fibroids are part of a complex biological narrative.

If you start viewing fibroids as a signal from your body’s internal environment rather than an enemy to be feared, how will that change the way you approach your healing journey?

<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" You’ve probably been told these growths are down to being Black or having the wrong genes, leaving you facing surgery or medication as your only real options. But what if we stopped focusing on the fibroid itself and started asking why your body is getting signals to grow them in the first place?

Picture us sitting down for a proper chat, and I tell you something that might surprise you: the biggest influence on your hormone imbalances isn’t actually your womb at all, it’s your liver. While everyone else is obsessing over shrinking fibroids, the real story is happening in your liver, your body’s main detox organ. Your liver is the one deciding which type of oestrogen ends up in your bloodstream, and which type gets permission to fuel fibroid growth.

The truth is, it’s less about having too much oestrogen, and more about how your liver chooses to break it down.

Subscribe now

The Tale of Two Pathways: The Protector vs. The Grower

When your liver processes oestrogen (specifically estrone) during what’s called Phase I detoxification, it comes to a fork in the road. Through a process called hydroxylation, your liver uses something called the Cytochrome P450 enzyme system to send oestrogen down two very different paths. One path protects your tissues, while the other acts like fertiliser for fibroid growth.

The Protective Path creates something called 2-hydroxyestrone (2-OH for short). Think of this as the gentle version of oestrogen. It’s less feminising and actually acts as a natural blocker. It sits on your oestrogen receptors like a placeholder, stopping the more aggressive, growth-stimulating oestrogens from reaching your uterine tissue. It’s your body’s built-in safety mechanism.

The Growth Path, on the other hand, produces 16alpha-hydroxyestrone (16alpha-OH). Medical research describes this metabolite as highly uterotropic, which is a fancy way of saying it really loves your uterus. This version forms an incredibly strong bond with receptors and sends a loud, clear message to your smooth muscle cells: multiply. There’s also a third troublemaker called 4-hydroxyestrone (4-OH), which can actually damage your DNA, making the cellular environment even more complicated.

Let other women know about this. because it’s responding to specific environmental and metabolic triggers that are pushing it in that direction. Let’s call these Ratio Reducers because they shift your system away from the protective 2-OH pathway and toward the aggressive 16-alpha pathway.

Visceral Fat and the Vicious Cycle: Belly fat is actually an active hormone-producing organ. It contains an enzyme called aromatase that converts male hormones (androgens) into oestrogen. This creates a dangerous feedback loop: inflammation triggers aromatase to make more oestrogen, which then creates more inflammation, which makes even more oestrogen, and round and round it goes.

The Gluten Connection: Gluten can suppress an important enzyme called Cytochrome P450 3A4. This enzyme is a key player in the protective metabolism pathway, so when it’s suppressed, you end up with oestrogen dominance and a reduced ability to clear those growth-promoting metabolites.

Sluggish Thyroid: Low thyroid function (hypothyroidism) is a well-known trigger that tips the balance away from the protective 2-OH pathway and toward the potent growth metabolites that feed fibroid tissue.

Environmental Hormone Disruptors: Pesticides, plastics (like BPA and phthalates), and dioxins are what we call xenoestrogens, fake oestrogens that your body mistakes for the real thing. They interfere with your Cytochrome P450 system and add to the total oestrogen load your liver has to deal with.

The Gut Problem: When Your Body Recycles Oestrogen

After Phase I processing, your liver moves to Phase II, called conjugation. Think of this like your liver putting oestrogen in a package - it attaches a molecule (like glucuronic acid) to the oestrogen, essentially handcuffing it so it becomes water-soluble and ready for removal. This packaging is supposed to ensure that oestrogen leaves your body through bile and your intestines in what’s known as Phase III (Elimination).

But… if your gut bacteria are out of balance (what we call dysbiosis), the whole process gets sabotaged. In a compromised gut, certain bacteria produce an enzyme called beta-glucuronidase, which acts like molecular scissors. It cuts off those handcuffs—the packaging your liver carefully placed on the oestrogen. Once freed, the oestrogen is no longer heading for the exit. Instead, it gets reabsorbed back into your bloodstream through something called enterohepatic recirculation, constantly bathing your fibroids in recycled growth signals.

Subscribe now

How to Influence Your Liver’s Choice

The good news is you can shift the chemical environment that allows fibroids to thrive. You have real power to influence your liver’s metabolic choices through targeted dietary and lifestyle changes.

Cruciferous Vegetables: Compounds like Indole-3-carbinol (I-3-C) and Diindolylmethane (DIM) found in broccoli, kale, and other cruciferous vegetables actually modify your P450 enzyme activity to favour that protective 2-OH pathway.

Green Tea: The main active compound in green tea, EGCG, has been shown in research to significantly reduce fibroid volume and improve quality of life.

Fibre is Non-Negotiable: Fibre is essential for Phase III (Elimination). It acts like a physical sponge in your gut, soaking up those metabolites to prevent them from being reabsorbed. As a bonus, it also increases your Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin (SHBG) levels, which helps keep oestrogen in check.

Go Organic: Choosing organic, hormone-free meat and dairy matters because xenoestrogens concentrate in the fat of conventionally raised animals. You don’t want to add to your oestrogen burden.

Plant-Based Oestrogen Modulators: Specific compounds like flaxseed lignans, resveratrol, hops flavonoids, and black cohosh can help modulate your oestrogenic environment more safely and gently.

Fibroids Are Your Body’s Alarm System

We need to stop viewing fibroids as just a female problem and start seeing them as your body’s alarm system, a signal that something systemic is out of balance. For instance, high insulin levels are a major driver of fibroid growth. Insulin stimulates that aromatase enzyme we talked about earlier and decreases SHBG. When SHBG is low, more oestrogen is free and active in your bloodstream, ready to bind to fibroid receptors.

There’s also Vitamin D, which acts as a master controller, regulating sex steroid receptor expression directly within fibroid tissue. And we can’t assume progesterone is always the solution. Research shows that while Progesterone Receptor B (PRB) can reduce inflammation, Progesterone Receptor A (PRA) can actually increase it. In an unbalanced environment, progesterone can even increase the blood supply and size of a fibroid.

Become Your Own Investigator

If you’re dealing with fibroids, it’s time to shift your mindset from sufferer to investigator. You’re not a victim of some mysterious growth. Your body is responding to specific chemical and environmental imbalances that you can identify and address.

Further, standard liver tests like AST and ALT only measure liver cell damage. They often completely miss the functional detoxification errors that are actually fuelling fibroid growth. Consider looking into Functional Detoxification Testing or Organic Acid Testing* to see your unique metabolite ratios and how well your COMT and P450 enzymes are working.

Your body isn’t failing you—it never has. It’s responding to a chemical environment that you now have the tools to change. By supporting your liver’s traffic control functions and quieting those systemic growth signals, you can begin to genuinely reclaim your hormonal health.

* Contact me directly for these tests.

If you enjoyed reading this article, you’ll really like these:

Why Your Natural Fibroid Remedies Aren’t Working

Why Fibroids Keep Coming Back

Fibroids: Are They Really Dangerous

This space is where I teach the real truths about fibroids, womb health, and healing: the things women are never told. The ultrasound results are in. You have large, multiple fibroids. A belly that looks six months pregnant. Pain that radiates down your legs. Frequent urination that wakes you multiple times a night, and bleeding so heavy it leaves you exhausted. And then you hear it: You need surgery.

Initially, the very word sends a shock wave through your spine and something inside you wants to panic, but almost immediately a calm descends over your body and your mind says: No.

You’ve been told that surgery is your only option, but every fibre of your being is telling you there is another way, even though you have no idea how you’ll move forward.

Subscribe now

The Difference Between Fear and Knowing

There is a massive difference between fear-based resistance and intuitive refusal, and learning to distinguish between the two is critical.
Fear says: I’m terrified of surgery. What if something goes wrong? What if I can’t recover? What if I don’t wake up?
Fear is rooted in worst‑case scenarios, past trauma, or stories you’ve heard from other women. It makes your chest tight, your mind race, and your body tense. It’s reactive, urgent, and often accompanied by a desperate search for reassurance.

Intuition, on the other hand, is different. Intuition says: This isn’t my path. There’s another way, even if I don’t know what it is yet.
You’re calm. You don’t argue with the doctor or justify yourself with logic. You don’t need to convince anyone. You just know. And that knowing sits in your body like an anchor. You might not be able to explain it to anyone, let alone yourself. But you feel it. And it won’t go away.

Unfortunately, most of us have been trained to override our inner voice. We’ve been taught that our bodies are unreliable, that our instincts are irrational, and that the experts know better. We’ve been conditioned to distrust ourselves - to believe that if we can’t explain something logically, it must not be valid.

So when that inner knowing arises, you second‑guess it. You dismiss it. You tell yourself you’re being foolish, irresponsible, or scared. But what if you’re not? What if that inner no is the most intelligent thing your body has ever said to you?

The Grief of Being Told Your Only Option Is Removal

There’s a particular kind of grief that comes with being told your only option is to remove part of yourself. For you, your womb might represent fertility, femininity, and future. Even if you’re done having children. Even if you’re in pain. Even if, logically, you understand why surgery might make sense - there’s still a mourning that happens when you’re told: “You don’t need it.”

And beneath that grief is often a deeper, more painful question: Why did my body betray me?

You’ve spent years trying to manage symptoms, trying to be healthy, trying to do the right things. And yet here you are, being told that your body has failed you. That it produced something harmful and that the only solution is to remove it. It’s hard not to feel betrayed. It’s hard not to feel like your body is the enemy.

But what if it didn’t betray you? What if your body has been trying to tell you something, and fibroids are just the loudest way it knows how? What if your fibroids are messengers? What if they’re saying: Something here needs to change. Something in your life, habits, or environment is out of balance, and I need you to pay attention.

When you start to see fibroids this way, everything shifts. Your grief transforms because you’re beginning to understand what’s possible.

The Pressure to Be Sensible

Your decision not to have surgery will usually be met with disapproval and predictable responses such as:
“But you’re in so much pain.”
“It’s the safest option.”
“You’ll feel so much better afterward.”
“Don’t let fear stop you from getting the help you need.”

But the unspoken message beneath it all is: Be sensible. I’m the expert. Do what you’re told.

There’s a subtle but powerful pressure to comply - not just from doctors, but from well‑meaning friends, family, and even other women who’ve had surgery and found relief. They want the best for you. They don’t want you to suffer. And in their minds, surgery is the only answer.

So when you hesitate, it’s met with confusion, frustration, and more often than not—judgment. You’re labeled as difficult or unrealistic. And the worst part is being told you’re being irresponsible. The pressure to conform is real.

But choosing to listen to your inner no, even when everyone around you is saying yes, is one of the bravest things you can do. It takes courage to stand in the face of medical authority and say, “I hear you, but this doesn’t feel right for me.”
It takes strength to trust yourself when no one else does. It takes faith to believe there’s another way, even when you can’t see it yet. And it takes a deep, unshakable knowing that you are not being foolish - you are being faithful to something inside you that matters more than approval or expectations.

The Moment Everything Shifts

There’s a moment when a woman realises: I don’t want this future. Even if it sounds easier.
She sees the path ahead clearly. Surgery. Recovery. Maybe relief. Maybe not.
Something in you says: This isn’t what I want. And in that moment, you make a choice.
You want to know: What if there’s another way? What if I’m not meant to cut this part of me out? Rather than simply removing your womb, you want to understand why your fibroids grew in the first place.

This is the moment where, according to conventional rules, you become a “difficult” patient, because you are no longer waiting for someone to fix you. You want to be an active participant in your own healing. What you are really asking is:

“What is my body trying to tell me? And what do I need in order to understand it?”

Rather than: “What’s wrong with me?”

Subscribe now

Surgery Isn’t Wrong. But Neither Is Choosing Not To.

Surgery is not wrong. For many, it’s the right choice. If you are considering surgery, you’re doing so because you’ve had enough. Surgery can bring relief. It can close a chapter and allow you to move forward. And that’s absolutely okay.

But so is choosing not to.
Choosing to explore other options.
Wanting to know the root cause.
Choosing to heal from the inside out.
That’s okay too. In fact, it’s powerful, and it deserves respect.

There is nothing wrong with surgery. The problem is the belief that it’s the only option. The problem is a medical system that treats fibroids as isolated growths rather than symptoms of deeper imbalances.

You are allowed to choose differently.
You are allowed to say, “I want to understand why this happened before I decide what to do about it.”
You are allowed to honour that inner no, even if no one else understands it.
Because this is your body, and only you get to decide what happens next.

Not Every Woman Is Meant to Walk the Same Path

Some women are here to close a chapter. Others are here to rewrite their story.

If you’re reading this and something in you is stirring… if you feel that inner no and you’re finally ready to honour it, you’re not alone. You’re not crazy, irresponsible, or in denial.

You are a woman who knows, deep down, that there’s more to this than what you’ve been told. And you would be right. Fibroids are your body’s way of saying: Something needs to change. Not just physically, but emotionally, mentally, and spiritually too.

And when you’re ready to listen, really listen, that’s when the real healing begins.

And no, this is not an easy path. It requires you to question everything you’ve been told about your body. It requires deep work. Balancing hormones and changing your diet is helpful, but it’s not enough. Fibroids require a major shift within. They require you to become a different woman, because the woman you’ve been is the one your fibroids grew in. And the woman you’re becoming is the one they no longer need.

Where to Start

If you’re the woman who said no, this is what I want you to know:
You don’t have to have all the answers right now.
You don’t have to know the exact protocol or eat the perfect diet.
You just have to start listening.

Start asking yourself:
What is my body trying to tell me?
What conditions allowed these fibroids to grow in the first place?
Who do I need to become so they no longer have a reason to stay?

Notice how these questions are different from:
What do I need to take? What should I eat? What herbs worked for you?

Dealing with fibroids is deep work. It’s not a quick fix and never will be. There is no magic pill. It’s not a 30‑day detox or a handful of supplements. It requires a transformation of your body, your beliefs, and your relationship with yourself.

If this resonates with you, if you’re ready to explore the path beyond surgery, welcome. You are in the right place.

Most women treat fibroids like a plumbing fault: find the blockage, remove it, and move on.
But that model ignores the entire system the plumbing lives inside.

Removing tissue treats symptoms, not causes. A body-centred, scientifically informed approach can prevent recurrence and restore true reproductive health.

I learned this the hard way after designing my own ‘healing’ programme before I truly knew what I was doing. What I thought was the ‘fix’ soon became an invitation to understand my body’s intelligence.

It made me ask: What does true healing actually require?

For the woman who is ready, she’s not looking to be “fixed.”
She’s ready to heal from the inside out, to feel alive in her body again.

And that’s where I realised how much of the conversation around fibroids is still very incomplete.

What Science Says and What It Leaves Out

Mainstream medicine correctly states fibroids are benign uterine growths influenced by oestrogen, progesterone, inflammation, and genetic risk factors. Large or symptomatic fibroids can cause heavy bleeding, pain, and fertility challenges; surgical and interventional options can be lifesaving and appropriate for many women. Many clinicians treat fibroids through a mechanistic lens because the evidence base for surgical and pharmaceutical interventions is strong and often urgent.

Where conventional care can fall short is its tendency to focus on organ-level fixes without integrating the broader landscape that shapes uterine health. Chronic stress, disrupted autonomic regulation, metabolic inflammation, and intergenerational epigenetic patterns all influence hormonal rhythms and tissue behaviour. These measurable biological pathways [nervous system tone, cytokine profiles, insulin signalling], all interact with the uterine environment. In other words, hormones respond to your entire story; physical, emotional, and ancestral.

The Energetic Layer Explained

Somatic means body-first. It’s physiology in motion. Your body stores stress in posture, breath, and pelvic tissue. Over time, this tension shapes how your womb anticipates safety or threat.

Somatic work helps your nervous system relearn safety, reducing inflammation and balancing the endocrine system. It strengthens the internal terrain so medical interventions, when needed, have longer-lasting results.

Two Healing Paths and a Blended Strategy

Here’s how I guide clients to blend evidence-based medicine with somatic intelligence:

Conventional Path

How it works: medical imaging, drugs to control bleeding, myomectomy or other uterine-sparing procedures.

When it’s right: severe bleeding, rapidly growing fibroids, acute pain, or fertility-threatening presentations.

Limitations: treats tissue without always shifting the internal drivers that allowed growth.

Somatic and Integrative Path

How it works: nervous system regulation, breathwork, pelvic floor and fascia therapies, anti-inflammatory nutrition, sleep optimisation, lineage-informed somatic therapy.

When it’s right: small to moderate fibroids, symptom management, prevention of growth, or as pre/post support around surgery.

Limitations: slower clinical change for large obstructive fibroids; needs consistency and skilled guidance.

Blended Strategy (Recommended)

Assess risk and urgency first with medical imaging and bloodwork.

Use somatic tools to regulate the nervous system, reduce inflammation, and rebuild hormonal resilience.

Layer targeted medical treatments when needed, and prepare the body pre-op and support recovery post-op with somatic protocols.

Track outcomes with both clinical markers (bleeding, imaging, labs) and embodied markers (sleep, stress reactivity, nutrition, pelvic comfort).

Address lineage and belief systems with belief work to reduce intergenerational drivers that may perpetuate vulnerability.

Practical Starter Protocols You Can Use Right Now

If you’re wondering where to begin, here are five evidence-informed ways to start reconnecting with your body’s intelligence:

Daily 10-minute nervous system reset: slow belly breath, 4-count inhale, 6-count exhale, hands on lower belly, 5 minutes of body scan.

Pelvic mapping once a week: gentle external palpation, notice sensations, hum or sigh to release tension.

Anti-inflammatory foundations: prioritise sleep, stabilise blood sugar, reduce processed seed oils, add leafy greens and omega-3s.

Surgical readiness: if surgery is chosen, use somatic prep for 2–4 weeks to lower sympathetic tone and optimise wound healing.

Lineage check-in: a single structured journaling prompt: Who in my family owned or lost their body choices? Followed by a ritual of naming and soft breath release.

Treating fibroids only as a mechanical problem is a partial strategy. When medicine meets embodiment, we transform the conditions that allowed it to grow. That is where prevention and true healing live.

Question for you to reflect on: Are you aware of how stress, somatic patterns, or family history might be shaping your womb health? Leave a comment and tell us one thing you want to reclaim from your body’s story.

About me

Valerie-Yamina Bey is a Nutritional Therapist and Detox Specialist “We don’t know what causes them,” or worse, “They’re incurable.” But what if the real issue and true nature of how and why they form is being overlooked entirely?

At the cellular level, fibroids are structured, active tissues shaped by biochemical and hormonal imbalances, and one of the biggest overlooked players is the extracellular matrix (ECM). This is the connective tissue framework that holds cells together, much like scaffolding in a building. But in fibroids, that scaffolding becomes excessive, rigid, and dysfunctional.

So why is this not part of the conversation between doctors and the very women affected by fibroids? Are medical professionals even fully aware of the role of the ECM, collagen deposition, and cellular signalling in fibroid development? And if they are, why is this knowledge not being used to help women make sense of their symptoms and find a path to true healing?

Excess Collagen Deposition

Fibroids are dense, fibrous structures packed with collagen, especially type I and type III. Type I collagen is the most abundant in the human body, found in skin, bones, and tendons. Type III collagen is typically found in soft tissues and is associated with wound healing and tissue repair.

In a healthy uterus, collagen is present in moderate amounts to provide structure and elasticity. But in fibroids, the levels are significantly elevated, making them stiff and rubbery to the touch. This dense collagen matrix not only gives fibroids their bulk but also makes them resistant to breakdown and healing.

This excess collagen is a biological response gone awry. But most women have never been told this. And once you understand what’s behind this collagen build-up, you can start to ask a different question: What is driving this overproduction, and how can it be reversed?

Dysregulated ECM Turnover

The extracellular matrix (ECM) is meant to be dynamic, it’s constantly being broken down and rebuilt in healthy tissues. This is known as ECM turnover. Enzymes called matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) help degrade old ECM components, while fibroblasts and other cells build new ones.

In fibroids, this system is broken. ECM production is ramped up, while degradation is slowed down. One 2010 study in Human Reproduction Update explained that fibroid tissues show a consistent increase in ECM proteins and a decrease in the enzymes responsible for breaking them down.

The result? Tissue accumulation and expansion… a breeding ground for growth. The body is laying down too much structure and not clearing enough away. It’s like a construction site where the builders keep adding bricks but no one ever cleans up the debris.

Again, the question arises: Why is this happening? And more importantly, what can you do to restore balance?

Growth Factor Storage & Release

The ECM also functions as a reservoir for signalling molecules like growth factors. One of the most influential in fibroid development is Transforming Growth Factor-beta (TGF-β). This growth factor does several things:

Stimulates the production of collagen and other ECM proteins

Suppresses ECM-degrading enzymes

Encourages fibroid cell proliferation

Studies, including those in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, have consistently shown that TGF-β is overexpressed in fibroid tissue. In short, the ECM stores this growth factor, then releases it in bursts, stimulating more collagen production and more fibroid growth. Its a vicious cycle.

Most women have never heard of TGF-β, let alone its role in fibroid development. But if you knew your fibroids were being fuelled by this biochemical loop, wouldn’t you want to know how to disrupt it?

Stiffness & Cellular Signalling

The rigidity of the ECM in fibroids actively influences cell behaviour. In a soft, flexible environment, cells behave normally. But in a stiff ECM, cells receive signals that promote:

Abnormal cell proliferation (too many cells forming too fast)

Inhibition of apoptosis (the natural process of cell death)

This means that cells within a fibroid keep dividing and refuse to die off when they should, leading to unchecked growth. It’s like the fibroid becomes a self-sustaining ecosystem, insulated from the body’s normal regulation.

This has been shown in multiple studies, including those from Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology, revealing that mechanical stiffness can profoundly change how cells “think” and behave.

Again, this raises an important question… if the physical environment of your uterus is driving this abnormal behaviour, is removing the womb the only option? Or is there a better way to restore balance?

Inflammatory & Hormonal Influences

Of course, we cannot ignore the role of oestrogen and progesterone. These hormones stimulate the production of ECM components, including collagen. That’s why fibroids typically grow during reproductive years; when hormone levels are high and shrink after menopause, when hormone levels drop.

But here’s where it gets even more interesting: inflammation, often driven by diet, stress, environmental toxins, or gut imbalance, sensitises tissues to hormonal signals. This means that even normal levels of hormones can trigger abnormal responses in a chronically inflamed body.

So it’s not just hormonal imbalance and more about the context in which those hormones are operating.

Which leads to a question few practitioners ask: What is causing the hormonal and inflammatory imbalances in the first place?

So… Why Aren’t We Told Any of This?

These are published studies, peer-reviewed, and widely accepted in scientific literature. So why is this information not being shared with women?

Could it be that we’ve become too reliant on symptom management, drugs, surgery, or suppression, without asking what’s really driving these issues at the cellular level?

The fact is, our body is brilliantly designed to self-heal, provided it has the right support, understanding, and internal environment.

And that’s where the real work begins, not just masking symptoms, but completely understanding the terrain of your body to find out exactly what’s happening. When you understand the deeper problems, you stop seeing fibroids as womb invaders. You’ll start seeing them as messages from your body; messages that you can respond to.

It’s not about fighting fibroids. When you truly know what your body is trying to tell you, rather than battling with it, you begin listening to it, understanding why it's happening, and begin restoring harmony at the cellular level.

What do you think?
Were you ever told about the role of collagen, ECM dysfunction, or growth factor signalling in fibroids? Were you led to believe they were simply genetic or inevitable?

Drop your thoughts in the comments, I’d love to hear from you.

If you enjoyed reading this, you will love these:

Fibroids: Are They Really Dangerous?

The Lymphatic System’s Hidden Role in Fibroid Growth

The Real Reasons Your Body is Growing Fibroids

This space is where I teach the deeper truths about fibroids, womb health, and healing: the things women are never told. length="0" type="image/jpeg"/>

Uterine fibroids are often misunderstood as pathological anomalies, but emerging views suggest they may function more as adaptive responses to chronic physiological stress, particularly involving the lymphatic and digestive systems. Rather than classifying fibroids as a ‘dis-ease’, it may be more accurate to consider them a survival mechanism… a way for the body to buffer against stagnation in waste clearance and impaired cellular turnover.

The Lymph System and Tissue Congestion

The lymphatic system is a crucial but underappreciated aspect of uterine health. Responsible for clearing approximately 30 billion worn-out cells daily, along with metabolic waste and cellular debris, it plays a foundational role in maintaining internal balance. When lymphatic drainage is compromised, mainly due to poor circulation, chronic inflammation, or digestive sluggishness, fluid and waste can accumulate, leading to localised lymph edema.

In the pelvis and abdomen, this stagnation can backflush waste materials into surrounding tissues, including the uterus and ovaries. Over time, this toxic accumulation may encourage the body to encapsulate debris through the formation of fibroid tissue, a form of bio-adaptive storage rather than uncontrolled growth. Essentially, when the lymph system can't evacuate the waste, the body chooses containment through fibroid development.

Your Body Has a Backup Plan

When lymphatic drainage is impaired, the body often resorts to localised swelling or fat deposition as a compensatory mechanism. This can manifest in:

Lymphedema: Chronic lymphatic fluid build-up, often in the limbs, due to damaged or overwhelmed lymph vessels. The tissue becomes swollen, fibrotic, and prone to infection.

Lipedema: A distinct condition involving symmetrical fat accumulation, typically in the legs and hips, often misdiagnosed as obesity. It’s painful and resistant to diet/exercise, and may involve lymphatic dysfunction.

Lipohypertrophy: Fatty bulges or nodules that form in areas of repeated trauma or stagnation; sometimes seen in insulin injection sites or areas of poor circulation.

Localised adipose bulges: These can appear anywhere lymphatic flow is compromised; abdomen, thighs, upper arms, even under the chin. They’re often soft, fibrotic, and may feel heavy or tender.

Think Dr Pimple Popper!

Digestive Dysfunction and Bile Flow

One of the primary contributors to lymphatic congestion is digestive dysfunction, particularly sluggish bowels (constipation) and poor bile secretion. Bile is produced by the liver and stored in the gallbladder, and it acts as a natural cleanser by facilitating the breakdown and excretion of fats and toxins. When bile flow is reduced, often due to bile duct blockages or liver congestion, intestinal transit slows down, leading to constipation and the build-up of internal waste. This, in turn, compounds lymphatic load and impedes efficient drainage from the pelvic organs.

Nutritional Impacts and Blood Vessel Integrity

Dietary choices heavily influence lymphatic and vascular health. High intake of animal protein has been associated with the thickening of blood vessel walls, particularly at the basal membranes where nutrient exchange occurs. When these membranes become rigid or clogged, nutrient delivery to the uterine tissues suffers. Over time, this sets the stage for degeneration and fibrosis.

A plant-forward, low-protein diet may help clear vessel obstructions and improve nutrient absorption in reproductive tissues. Several studies, including those investigating vascular remodelling and fibrosis regression, suggest that minimising dietary protein and inflammatory foods may aid in reversing tissue hypertrophy and restoring vascular elasticity.

The Body’s Innate Capacity to Heal

The body holds a remarkable intelligence, capable of breaking down unnecessary fibroid tissue when metabolic, digestive, and lymphatic circumstances support it. By reducing the lymphatic burden, enhancing bile flow, and optimising circulation, it's possible to create internal conditions conducive to spontaneous regression.

Rather than viewing fibroids as a fixed diagnosis, it's time to reframe them as fluid outcomes; a physical manifestation of internal imbalance that the body can resolve under the right conditions.

If this resonated, here are three powerful articles to explore next:

The Real Reasons Your Body Is Growing Fibroids

Why Fibroids Keep Coming Back

The Command Centre of the Womb

This space is where I teach the real truths about fibroids, womb health, and healing: the things women are never told. length="0" type="image/jpeg"/>

Let’s be honest: if the advice women have been given about fibroids actually worked, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. Let me guess…, you’ve tried castor oil packs, eliminating coffee, sugar and alcohol. You ate only salads, switched to a plant based diet or you went raw vegan. Or you invested thousands on ebooks, coaches, teas and herbal remedies, but none of it shrank your fibroids right?

Like many women, you did this perhaps because you wanted to avoid surgery, or you simply wanted a holistic approach to dealing with fibroids.

But what if I told you, the reason none of that worked, was not because you were doing anything wrong, but because…you were trying to fix a physical problem that has a much deeper origin.

Thing is, what most women do is that they focus on controlling symptoms, shrinking the fibroid, balancing hormones, calming down inflammation - which overall, are very good things to do, but what if I was to tell you that fibroids don’t necessarily start in the womb…they just end up there.

Stick with me.

By the time a fibroid shows up, your body has already spent years trying to process years of built up stress, emotional overload, poor elimination, and a life that’s been running on autopilot.

It’s like mopping up a flooded floor without ever turning off the tap. You can detox all day long, but if your nervous system is stuck in survival mode, your gut is sluggish, your emotions are unreleased, and your choices are driven by guilt or obligation, your body will keep producing conditions that match that state.

And, unfortunately for us women, that target is our womb.

If this resonated with you, don’t keep it to yourself. Subscribe for free to receive new posts on womb health.

Fibroids Don’t Just Appear out of Nowhere

They grow in the exact place where you hold your power, creativity, intuition, and emotions. That is not accidental.

And when that part of you is overloaded, unheard, or pushed aside, your body will respond.

Fibroids grow when your body is carrying things you were never meant to carry… emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually.

In this context, we have to think deeper than stress. What I am talking about is the pressure to keep going when you’re completely exhausted. The unspoken grief you’ve had to swallow. The resentment that simmers under your skin because your needs are always put on the back burner, and the years of saying yes when you really wanted to say no but felt like a bitch if you didn’t.

Sister, when I tell you it all adds up - it really does. I lived in this scenario for many years. All that invisible weight builds up and places a massive burden on your physical body. And being one of the most emotionally intelligent parts of your body, your womb is not going to just forget.

Thanks for reading! You keep doing, doing, doing or you keep doing what the doctors tells you is best, but deep down, something still doesn’t feel right, but you just can’t put your finger on it.

What if I told you that fibroids are more than just a health issue?

What if I told you fibroids are a message?

A message that something in your life is not being honoured. That you’ve been disconnected from your body and from what it actually needs. A disconnection that requires much more than supplementation, surgery, or a plant based meal plan.

Your Body is Always Working For You

Let me say something you might have trouble believing: your body is brilliant and intelligently made.

If that is the case Valerie, then why do I have fibroids? You might ask.

Research will not directly tell you this because it's not something you can measure in a petri dish. Fibroids are a protective response. They show up when your body is trying to keep you safe in a world that keeps asking you to abandon yourself.

Maybe you've swallowed your emotions for years. Maybe you’ve stayed in survival mode so long you forgot what feeling good even feels like. Perhaps your body has been giving you hints all along but now it’s screaming at you! “Please hear me!”

The medical system will tell you to treat the fibroid or remove your womb, silencing her voice altogether. What I am asking you to do is look at why they are there in the first place.

Because behind every fibroid is a story your body is holding onto:

A build-up of emotional tension you were never taught how to release.

A lifestyle that’s drained your energy and overloaded your system.

Foods that numb your body’s signals instead of make them clear for you to hear.

Habits that keep you functioning but not thriving.

This is part of the internal environment where fibroids grow and flourish. What I’ve learned over the years (to my detriment) is that the more you ignore your womb's cries for help, the more struggle and internal pain (mental and emotional) you get.

So What Does Healing Really Take?

I constantly get asked “How long will this take?” Let me be clear, dealing with fibroids is not linear - I say this all the time. It's a phased approach that requires in depth investigation:

That includes:

Getting clear on the deeper reasons your body is in this state.

Removing what’s making it harder to heal, not just physically, but emotionally too.

Rebuilding your body with foods that bring it back to life.

Restoring the parts of you that were left behind, your true voice; unapologetic and unafraid.

So whilst you need all the good stuff like diet, exercise and herbs etc., the real healing work is getting into the stuff you can’t see, and that requires asking questions that will get to the heart of the problem. This is what will make all the difference. If there is one thing I have learned in this journey is that you cannot heal from the same place that created the fibroids. Because, if you don’t address the internal environment that created them in the first place, they will return.

The fact is, you don’t have to live with fibroids no matter how you choose to deal with them. But if you choose the natural healing route, the answer won’t be found in more band-aid solutions.

It starts when you stop looking out there and start looking within for answers. That’s where the real work begins.

If this resonated, here are three powerful articles to explore next:

• Why Fibroids Keep Coming Back

• The 11 Stages of Disease Most Doctors Never Explain

• Epigenetics and Fibroids

This space is where I teach the real truths about fibroids, womb health, and healing: the things women are never told. Physical

Fibroids are not just because of your ‘genes’. Neither are they just due to hormonal imbalances. Indeed, oestrogen dominance, poor liver function, underactive thyroid, PMS and bloating are all real and valid, and all form vital pieces of the health puzzle. However, they too are nothing more than symptoms. And even when we treat the symptoms, we are still missing the actual real cause.

Certainly, what I have learned on my own healing journey is that: most fibroid growth didn’t start with you. They started in the wombs of the women who came before you; our ancestors, our foremothers - whose wombs were violated, enslaved, exploited, and put through the most horrendous crimes the perpetrators were never punished for.

Our family…women who were never given a safe space to grieve or to heal.

These women had no words for their trauma… because fighting just to survive left no room for emotional luxury.

Subscribe now

Ok…I Know It Sounds Like BS…

When my fibroids were found by “mistake” in 2002, I was relieved. At last I knew why my belly protruded like a permanent pregnancy, no matter how many crunches I did.

Thing is, when the sonographer told me, for her, it was all very matter of fact. There was no urgency. No explanation. No solutions. I was just simply left to get on with it.

Two surgeries later with no relief from my symptoms, I started on the “natural” route, because deep down, I knew losing my womb was not the best thing to do in the long run. I knew there would be life long issues, so instead, I upgraded my eating habits, I detoxed like mad. I did everything I was “supposed” to do. And yet, nothing changed. I still flooded and the fibroids remained in defiance.

Now, if someone back then told me the reason I had fibroids was because I had generational trauma and a wounded womb, I would have said “ What kind of airy-fairy, incense-burning BS is this?”

Because of my background, I felt I had enough knowledge of the human body to fix myself; because after all I was strong, capable and I had a logical mind - a bit like a Vulcan (for all my Star Trek fans!).

I had my sh*t together. I knew my stuff. I thought I knew who I was.

But I didn’t. I had no idea…

The version of me I knew was living day-to-day was shaped by survival instincts. I am a woman who was birthed from a lineage of generational pain.

Locked in a False Identity

Back in 2011, I faced the most difficult truth ever. I was at an event in Los Angeles. The speaker said something I would never forget…he simply said “you must know who you are”. It was at that moment, I realised I was not who I thought I was.

The very question I asked myself was “If I am not me, then who the heck am I?”

I burst into tears.

{and stayed that way for the rest of the day… and on the 8 hour flight home]

The reality is… most of us are not ourselves. We are nothing more than walking coping mechanisms wrapped in a false identity.

You’re probably thinking, well I am who I am, I was “just born that way”; hyper-independent, emotionally detached, anxious, people-pleasing, endlessly giving, never needing. Or perhaps you're thinking “I don’t think so”.

Chances are, that’s not the real you. That’s the armoured you. It's the version of you that’s required to survive in a world that never saw you as sacred [and still doesn’t].

So yes, when someone tells you your womb issues are likely to be born from a spiritual wound, chances are you’ll attack that in some way, you’ll resist it…because that would mean letting go of the version of you that has kept you alive and surviving all these years. And besides, there is no evidence right? So it's hocus pocus…right?

The Legacy of Unhealed Wombs

Dr. Joy DeGruy’s work on Post-Traumatic Slave Syndrome explains this so well. She highlights how trauma didn’t end when slavery did, it just got passed down, hence why so many of us are living with it, unrecognised, unprocessed, unhealed and embedded in our DNA like a parasite. Our ancestors went through unspeakable horrors, and then were just expected to move on.

No counselling. No justice. No healing space.

And survival teaches the body things like:

Don’t feel too deeply.

Don’t trust anyone.

Don’t rest.

Don’t be vulnerable.

Don’t let them see you sweat.

Don’t let them see you bleed.

Now zoom in to today:
You think you’re just “naturally anxious.”
You think you “just attract stress.”
You think your fibroids are “just hereditary.”

Sis, what if I told you that you are carrying more than you were meant to and your womb is tired of being the storage unit?

Why Healing Feels So Hard

Because it is. Period! [Pun intended]

Doing the hard stuff is not inconvenient is it? Healing will require the death of the identity that’s been running your life.

The you that says:

“I don’t need help.”

“I’ll figure it out.”

“It’s not that bad.”

“I’m fine.”

Ahhh…that strong woman persona we all live up to!

That “you” was built to cope. But healing isn’t about coping.

It’s about laying down the armour and releasing the grief.
It's time to face the rage head on.
It's time to let yourself feel. I mean really feel.

And yes, it’s about supporting your body physically and nutritionally.
But without the emotional, spiritual and energetics built in with your healing, you’re doing nothing more than just sweeping the dust under the rug.

Subscribe for up-to-date knowledge and science on fibroids and why they grow.

The Womb Remembers Even When You Don’t

If the womb is a vessel of creation, chances are it is also a storage of memories. And not just your own memories, but the imprints of every woman in your lineage who never had the space to release what was done to her.

Think about that…

The womb doesn’t forget what the mind was forced to suppress.

So what does that mean for you, right now?

It means your fibroids might be the physical expression of inherited grief, rage, betrayal, or silence, coded into your body long before you ever took your first breath. And yes of course, nutrition and lifestyle play a part too.

This Is What Ancestral Trauma Looks Like in a Fibroid-Prone Woman:

Let’s put the theoretical to one side for a second.

You want to know what ancestral trauma actually looks like in the day-to-day life of a woman with fibroids?

It looks like:

Hyper-productivity that leaves no room for stillness.

The constant cycle of doing, fixing and researching.

Guilt when resting.

A deep fear of slowing down in case it all falls apart.

Distrust of your own body.

Difficulty asking for or receiving help.

An automatic “I’m fine” reflex even when you’re falling apart inside.

Grief with no name.

Anger with no outlet.

Sensitivity that you’ve trained yourself to hide.

You think these are just personality traits. But they’re not. They are trauma adaptations passed down like family heirlooms. And chances are, your womb has been holding all of it.

When Doing More Becomes the New Cage

Here’s where it gets tricky, and why healing feels like chasing a shadow for so many women:

Once we discover natural healing, we think hurrah! I’ve found the answer! So we switch from pharmaceuticals to herbs, from surgery to castor oil packs, from processed foods to organic fruit.

But the energy driving it is still the same.

We’re still doing it from a place of fear, panic, urgency, and the need to control the outcome. We are still in the Western thinking “fix-it” mode, treating the body like it’s a problem to solve. But your body is not a problem.

So until you change the energy behind what you’re doing, it doesn’t matter how “clean” your lifestyle is, because you’re still approaching healing with the same frequency that created them in the first place.

Trauma Isn’t Just What Happened [It’s What Never Got Processed]

Dr. Joy DeGruy taught that trauma isn’t just the event, it’s the absence of healing after the event.

Our ancestors weren’t just traumatised by what they experienced, they were traumatised by the silence that followed; by the expectation to get up the next day and carry on…by the systems that offered no justice and no acknowledgment of the pain.

That silence didn’t just disappear. It got suppressed and passed down through behaviors, beliefs and biology. And now, generations later, we wonder why our wombs are full of growths like an alien invasion. Many of us are emotionally full, but spiritually starved and I am not talking about religion.

The Body As Proof of What the Family Wouldn’t Say

Your body might be expressing what your entire family was too ashamed or afraid to speak out loud.

Maybe you come from a lineage where:

The women kept secrets to protect reputations.

Abuse was swept under the rug.

Emotional expression was labelled weakness.

Boundaries were non-existent.

Religion was used to bypass truth.

Silence was safer than speaking.

In families like these, the body often becomes the only one brave enough to speak.

Fibroids are often the manifestation of what was suppressed…

Unspoken grief.

Uncried tears.

Silenced screams.

The “NO” that never left your grandmother’s lips.

And while you’re busy trying to shrink the fibroids with a plant based diet and herbal teas, the real healing is whispering to you hoping you will feel what they couldn’t. Grieve what they weren’t allowed to. Speak what they silenced.

This is the ONLY way to break the chain.

Share Beyond Fibroids

The Womb is Not a War Zone

There comes a point in every healing journey where you have to ask yourself…

Why the heck is it (the natural healing) not working?

Because maybe… just maybe… your fibroids need more than that. Perhaps they are boundaries that need to be established. Maybe they are barriers created by your body to protect you until it feels safe enough to look within.

You see, you were never meant to heal in survival mode.

Healing vs. Hustling

The wellness industry has taught us to approach natural healing with the same urgency and addiction to progress that capitalism taught us to chase success.

Even when we walk away from Western medicine, we often recreate the same pressure in another form:

Obsessing over parasite cleanses

Jumping from detox to detox

Shaming ourselves for every “wrong” bite of food

Feeling behind if we’re not symptom-free by month three

While parasite cleanses and detoxes are valid, it's more than likely your body is whispering to you…will you slow down long enough to hear me? Because in the end, healing isn’t just about what you do. It’s about what you’re finally willing to feel and let go of.

The 4 Energetic Distortions That Keep Fibroids Alive

After working with women and witnessing countless womb stories, here’s what I’ve seen again and again. These 4 energetic distortions often keep fibroids lodged in place, even when you’re doing all the right things physically:

Over-responsibility
The belief that you must carry it all; everyone’s needs, expectations and emotions. You learned this early. Maybe as a child. Maybe from your mother. Either way, your womb became a storage closet for burdens that were never yours to hold.

Emotional suppression
When rage, grief, or heartbreak have no safe place to land, the womb absorbs it. The emotion doesn’t disappear, it just goes underground, hardening into tissue over time.

Disconnection from pleasure
So many women with fibroids are disconnected from pleasure, not just sexual pleasure, but sensual, creative and joyful. They’ve learned that feeling good is unsafe, selfish, or unproductive. Play is only for children. But pleasure is medicine. And a numb womb is a congested womb.

Fear of being seen
Fibroids often create bloating, weight gain, and distorted body image. But beneath that physical layer is something much deeper: If I’m fully seen, will I be fully safe? The fibroid becomes both a mask and a message.

When these distortions are running in the background, you can juice fast all day long and still have the fibroids grow.

From Fixing to Feeling: The Sacred Reversal

So what now? Where do you go when you realise that what you’re doing isn’t working?

You return to yourself.

You sit with your womb and listen to her story. Ask her what she needs, not just what you want from her. She wants you to listen, not fight her. So slow down. Feel what arises. Cry the tears your ancestors were too exhausted to weep, and allow joy, softness, and support to become part of your protocol.

This is what you call feminine power.

So no, you don’t need another protocol, you need to come home to your body, because your body, your womb is where the truth lives. Now, sis, go seek it.

Take a moment.

Sit quietly. Breathe deeply.
Place your hands on your womb.

Ask yourself this one question:

What am I still holding that isn’t mine?
And: What would it feel like to finally let it go?

You don’t need to know the answers right away. Just asking begins the unravelling.

👇🏽If this resonated deeply with you, I invite you to share what came up in the comments. “right” things, only to have your fibroids grow back or get bigger? I want you to know: it’s not because your body is working against you. Neither is it due to the lack of willpower, and its certainly not because you didn’t try hard enough.

There is something else going on and it has a name.

It's called Epigenetic trauma.

Epigenetics is a well-established field of science that shows how stress, trauma, and even our social environment can change the way our genes express themselves, all without changing our DNA.

In an earlier blog on epigenetics, I broke down what epigenetics actually is, why it matters, and how pioneers like Dr. Bruce Lipton and Dr. Joy Degruy have shown us that the mind and body are not separate, especially not for ‘women of colour’ who have had to put up with generational pain, medical neglect, chronic stress and more besides.

But today, I want to go a little deeper.

I am referring to a paper titled “Epigenetic Effects of Social Stress and Epigenetic Inheritance”, and while it doesn’t mention fibroids, what it does describe is the exact biological pattern I see in almost every woman I work with.

The Groundhog Day Effect: Why Fibroids Keep Coming Back

So many women come to me after they’ve tried everything. They’ve done the herbs, supplements, changed to a plant based diet, done yoni steams…the list goes on and one, and yet the fibroids continue growing or they start growing again (after surgery), which is the worst thing ever because you thought you had got rid of them for good.

This constant round and round is what I call the “Groundhog Day Effect”, the painful merry-go-round where healing never quite takes place because something essential hasn’t been addressed. The question we must ask ourselves is what is that essential thing?

The answer, I believe, is in the way the body remembers what the mind can’t say verbally.

The paper explains how social trauma; like poverty, abuse, racism, or even generational experiences like war and genocide or the long term impact of slavery, can chemically alter gene expression through a mechanism called DNA methylation. These epigenetic changes can affect our hormones, immune responses, and even how our body handles stress, all of which are major players in fibroid development.

The thing I’ve been unable to ignore is the fact that these changes can be passed down through generations, even if you never directly experienced the original trauma. Meaning, we are still suffering from the effects and don’t even know it.

The Stress-Fibroid Connection Runs Deeper Than We Thought

The paper dives into what is called the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA axis), the system in the body that manages our stress response. Essentially, its a feedback loop. When the HPA Axis becomes dysregulated (usually due to chronic or trauma), it can lead to hormonal imbalances, particularly high cortisol and low progesterone. This then creates the perfect conditions for fibroid growth.

One gene that was mentioned, NR3C1, is responsible for our glucocorticoid receptors, the way our body “hears” cortisol. When any kind of ‘ trauma' increases methylation (the chemical modification of DNA), the result is a body stuck in stress mode, even when the threat has long gone.

And if you’re stuck in stress mode, your reproductive system takes the hit. Your womb becomes the battlefield of unprocessed stress, grief, loss, and survival.

This is data-backed hard-core science and it's what I’ve been seeing in my practice for years.

Why Your Womb Is Speaking To You

As I mentioned already, the paper doesn’t talk about fibroids.

But when I see women with fibroids who also have a history of trauma, abandonment, body shame, medical gaslighting, or suppressed rage, and I read studies about how these exact stressors rewrite the body’s gene expression, I can’t unsee the connection.

Which is why, I’ve come to know for sure that dealing with them will take much more than simply detoxing your liver or eating anti-estrogenic foods (although those matter too!). It’s about recognising that your womb might be expressing a story that needs to be heard or expressed so your womb and you can let go of it.

Healing Requires a Multi-Functional Approach

This paper and others like it make very clear that:

Early life trauma alters gene expression.

That altered gene expression can be inherited.

Reversing the impact requires deep cellular, emotional, and spiritual work.

The field of social epigenetics is showing us that our bodies are not just shaped by what we eat or how we live today, but also they are shaped by what we carry forward from those who came before us.

That’s why I created the Holistic Cycle Method. It's a transformative system I created through my own self-healing journey over 8 years, that creates real change and results. No longer can fibroids keep being treated like a checklist of things to tick off. Real change comes from a drastic change in our beliefs, behaviours, habits and our ability to challenge the paradigms we come to see as ‘normal’, like ‘fixing’ heavy bleeding with birth control, or taking iron pills without addressing the root causes of heavy bleeding…

…and btw…it's not just fibroids!

You and your body are more intelligent than we’ve been led to believe.

As women, we are highly intuitive. It's time to start listening to the Divine Wisdom that has always been inside you, so you can step into who you've always been… without being in survival mode, living in trauma without realising it, or believing in the false beliefs that have shaped your choices and your life, all your life.

So, you might want to ask the question…

When I remove these fibroids [whether naturally or through surgery], do I really want to return to the same ‘normal’ that helped create them… or am I ready to step into the woman I was always meant to be?

If you enjoyed this, here are three powerful articles to explore next:

Why Your Liver Holds the Key to Shrinking Fibroids

The 11 Stages of Disease Most Doctors Never Explain

Uterine Fibroids: A Lymphatic Perspective

This space is where I teach the real truths about fibroids, womb health, and healing: the things women are never told.
